The staff are OK, though they particularly don't go out of their way to be helpful, as they do in so many other hostels in China. Kaiyue is located in a nice (if slightly run down) old-fashioned area which seems a bit out of place in an otherwise quite modern city and is near the Catholic church. It's a long way from the Tsingtao beer factory, the good beaches and any nice restaurants. You'll need a taxi to get to the CBD for the best food, bars and nightlife.
